Power station and portable battery for camping

For tent camping, a portable power station brings electricity where there is none: LED lighting, phone charging, a cooler and small appliances, all in silence.

Why a portable battery for camping?

A portable power station turns a campsite into a comfortable base, without the noise or smell of a generator, which is banned or frowned upon on most pitches. Silent and safe to use inside the tent, it stores a capacity in Wh and delivers it via 230 V, USB and 12 V for all your outdoor gear.

What capacity for a weekend or a week?

For a light weekend (lighting, phone charging, a small cooler used intermittently), 300 to 500 Wh is enough. For a week for two with a compressor cooler running, aim for 600 to 1000 Wh, more if you add a coffee maker or an air-bed pump. Solar during the day significantly extends autonomy.

Weight, a key criterion

Camping often means carrying the station from the boot to the pitch: weight matters. Under 6 kg, it moves with one hand. LiFePO4 models offer the best longevity-safety balance, and many now recharge in an hour on mains before you leave.

Solar charging: full autonomy

Paired with a foldable solar panel, the station becomes self-sufficient: charge during the day, use in the evening. It is the ideal combination for touring camping or extended stays away from an outlet. Check the accepted solar input to size the panel.

EcoFlow Trail 300 DC Ideal

£169.00 (4)

A 100% DC power station of 288Wh with a 12V car outlet: dual 140W USB-C, long-life LiFePO4 battery, built for camping and road trips.

  • Capacity : 288 Wh (LiFePO4, 3000+ cycles)
  • Output : 300W max, 100% direct current (DC)
  • Ports : 2x USB-C 140W, 2x USB-A, 12V outlet (120W)
  • Weight : 2.58 kg (167 x 115 x 166 mm)
  • 288Wh pure DC, dual 140W USB-C and a 12V outlet, 2.58 kg
Use case: Camping & Tent

For a comfortable camp, the Trail 300 DC is a solid choice: its 288 Wh power a lamp, a laptop, a tablet and a 12V cooler at the same time via its car outlet, a real plus over the Trail 200 DC which lacks this outlet. Its two 140W USB-C ports recharge mobile devices fast, with excellent efficiency since there is no conversion to 230V. At 2.58 kg, it stays easy to carry, a bit heavier than its little sister but far more versatile. Its dedicated solar and car port, up to 110W, recharges it directly at camp in good weather, without a USB-C adapter. Silent (0 dB, no fan) and drop resistant, it suits regular use perfectly. Without a 230V mains socket, however, it does not replace an inverter station for a device that truly needs alternating current: it is a deliberate DC station, built for connected, practical camping.
The EcoFlow Trail 300 DC is a portable power station of 288Wh that goes all-in on direct current: no AC inverter, so no conversion losses, to power a laptop, a drone, a 12V cooler or camping lamps for longer. Its LiFePO4 battery lasts over 3000 cycles, it weighs 2.58 kg and delivers up to 300W, with two 140W USB-C ports and a 12V car outlet, a first for the Trail range. It also recharges directly from a solar panel, up to 110W.

Jackery Explorer 300D Ideal

See price and availability (2)

Two and a half kilos, 288 Wh of LiFePO4 and not a single fan: a station that fits in a camera bag and that you never hear.

  • Capacity : 288 Wh of LiFePO4, 4,000 cycles
  • Outputs : 3 USB-C (140 W max), 1 USB-A, 12 V cigarette 120 W
  • Distinctive : No 230 V socket at all, DC output only
  • Recharge : 2 h 18 on 140 W USB-C, 3 h 30 on 100 W solar
  • 2.5 kg, fanless and therefore perfectly silent
Use case: Camping & Tent

On a campsite the 300D covers everything that plugs into USB or 12 V: phones, tablets, a speaker, a fan, a mattress pump, lighting. Its three USB-C ports and USB-A port serve four devices at once, and the 120 W cigarette-lighter output takes a small 12 V cool box through the day. Its LiFePO4 chemistry (4,000 cycles) withstands years of seasons, and a 100 W solar panel refills it in 3.5 hours on a sunny pitch. The thing to check before leaving: it has no 230 V socket at all, so make sure every piece of kit you take charges over USB or 12 V.
The Jackery Explorer 300D turns the usual power station on its head: it drops the 230 V socket entirely and keeps only DC output, which buys it a compact upright format weighing 2.5 kg. Its 288 Wh of LiFePO4 (4,000 cycles) feed three USB-C ports, a USB-A and a 120 W 12 V cigarette-lighter output, 300 W in total. The 140 W USB-C cable doubles as the carrying handle and as the charging lead, refilling the battery in 2 h 18. With no fan, it runs in complete silence, and Jackery warrants it for 5 years.

  • 2048 Wh and a 7-year warranty at an aggressive price
Use case: Camping & Tent

At a campsite, set up near the vehicle, the Aferiy P210 effortlessly covers a long stay: a cooler running continuously, ambient lighting, a fan and charging for the whole group’s devices. Its 2048 Wh allow several days of autonomy before recharging, and up to 500 W of solar keeps you topped up in good weather. Its 22 kg weight, however, suits car camping rather than backpacking: you set it down once on arrival. The many outputs (3 sockets, 4 USB-C, USB-A, 12 V) do away with power strips and centralise the whole camp’s power.
The Aferiy P210 is a portable power station with a 2048 Wh automotive-grade LiFePO4 battery (4000 cycles). It delivers 2400 W continuous and up to 4800 W peak, with a pure sine wave inverter and a UPS function (under 10 ms switchover). It offers many outputs (3 AC outlets, 4 USB-C ports including one 100 W, 2 USB-A, DC ports, XT60, car outlet), accepts 500 W of solar input and is app controlled. 7-year warranty, 22 kg.

Frequently asked questions

For a light weekend, 300 to 500 Wh is enough (lighting, charging, small cooler). For a week for two with a compressor cooler, aim for 600 to 1000 Wh, more if you add small appliances. Solar extends autonomy.

Yes. A compressor cooler draws about 40 to 60 W: a 500 Wh station runs it intermittently over a weekend, a 1000 Wh one for several days, especially with solar charging during the day.

Three methods combine: mains before you leave (often under an hour on recent models), the 12 V socket while driving, and above all a foldable solar panel that makes the setup self-sufficient on site.

Under 6 kg, a station carries easily with one hand from the boot to the tent. Above 1000 Wh, weight climbs quickly: choose based on the autonomy you really need and the distance to carry.
