We tested the 30Q in three different settings: a high-end torch, a rebuildable mod and a small DIY pack for a power tool. In all three cases the same conclusion holds: this is a cell that never disappoints because it does not try to be the best on a single criterion. In a torch, runtime is very solid without being exceptional; in a high-drain mod, it copes without abnormal heating right up to its rated 15A. That exact compromise is what has made it a community reference for years. Real caveat: at the same budget, a purely capacity-focused cell will go further on runtime alone, and a purely high-drain cell will go further on raw amperage. The 30Q is an excellent default choice when you are not yet sure which of those two needs will dominate. Verdict after several charge cycles: the rated 3500mAh is genuinely there, clearly ahead of older 18650 staples like the Panasonic NCR18650B (3400mAh). The trade-off, logically, is a more limited continuous discharge current (10A) than a cell like the Samsung 30Q (15A): the MJ1 is not built for very high instantaneous current, but for maximising range.
