Detailed overview: Growatt VITA 550 portable power station 538Wh
The Growatt VITA 550 is a compact portable power station from Growatt, a major solar-energy player that has made a name for itself in the portable station market. With its 538Wh of capacity and a power of 600W continuous (1200W peak), it targets camping, vans, outdoor remote work and backup top-ups, in a body of about 8 kg that is easy to load into a car.
Its main asset is express charging: it goes from 0 to 100% in about 1.6 hours from a wall socket, ahead of many rivals of equivalent capacity. The X-Boost technology also lets it briefly power resistive appliances (kettle, low-power hair dryer) up to 1200W, beyond its 600W nominal.
On connectivity, it is remarkably complete with up to 13 ports: 2 AC outlets, a 100W USB-C port (ideal for a laptop), several USB-A ports, a 12V car socket and DC outputs. Enough to power and charge many devices at once. Its LiFePO4 battery ensures a long life and safe operation, far beyond conventional lithium batteries.
Its only real limit in Europe is distribution: Growatt is mostly present on the North American market, so the VITA 550 is harder to find than the equivalent Jackery or EcoFlow. Technically, though, it has nothing to envy them and makes a credible alternative for anyone looking for a compact, versatile, fast-charging station.
Comparison
How does the Growatt VITA 550 compare with benchmark compact stations?
| Model | Capacity | Power | Weight | Recharge 0-100% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Growatt VITA 550 | 538Wh | 600W | 8.2 kg | 1.6 h |
| Jackery Explorer 500 v2 | 512Wh | 500W | 5.7 kg | 1 h |
| EcoFlow River 2 Pro | 768Wh | 800W | 7.8 kg | 70 min |
The Growatt VITA 550 offers slightly more capacity than the Jackery Explorer 500 v2 and fast charging. It is heavier than the Jackery and less capacious than the EcoFlow River 2 Pro. Its asset is an excellent balance of price, ports and charging speed, provided you can find it in Europe.

Our tester's review: Christophe Delpuech
The Growatt VITA 550 is a pleasant surprise in the compact station category, often dominated by Jackery and EcoFlow. Its 538Wh sits just above the usual 500Wh, and above all it recharges very fast: in about an hour and a half, it goes from empty to full, which is welcome when you leave in a hurry. The X-Boost technology lets it briefly run resistive appliances up to 1200W, beyond its 600W nominal. We also liked the generous connectivity, with a real 100W USB-C for a laptop and a host of ports. The LiFePO4 battery ensures a long life. Its main drawback in Europe is distribution: Growatt is mostly present on the US market, which makes it harder to find than its rivals. Technically, though, it has nothing to envy them.
Frequently asked questions: Growatt VITA 550 portable power station 538Wh
With 600W and 538Wh, it powers a cool box, lighting, an internet router, a small fan, and charges smartphones, tablets and laptops. Thanks to X-Boost, it can briefly run resistive appliances up to 1200W.
About 1.6 hours for a full charge from a wall socket, which is fast for its class. It also accepts solar and car charging for off-grid use.
Growatt is mostly distributed on the North American market, so the VITA 550 is less common in Europe than the Jackery or EcoFlow. That is its main limit, as it is technically very competitive.
It uses a LiFePO4 battery, known for its long life (several thousand cycles) and safety, far superior to the conventional lithium-ion batteries of older stations.
