Between 700 and 1500 watt-hours a station covers the camper van, the site with no mains supply and a power cut at home. What really separates models is not capacity but continuous output: 1000 watts handles a travel kettle, 1800 allows an induction hob or a hair dryer. Second comes the UPS function, that switchover in a few milliseconds which protects a computer or a medical device from an outage. Third is maximum solar input, which decides your real autonomy on the move: 200 watts accepted is not the same thing as 500.

We carried the Explorer 1000 v2 over several weekends, and it is exactly the format we hoped for from Jackery. At 10.8 kg with a folding handle, it slips into the boot without a fight, yet it still puts out 1500W continuously, enough to run a kettle or an induction hob while camping, which many stations this size cannot do. The 1070Wh easily cover a night of camping fridge plus charging phones and a laptop. Recharging is the real highlight: in emergency mode via the app, we went from 0 to 100% in one hour on a regular socket, and in quiet mode it drops below 30 dB, so you forget it is there. The two 100W USB-C ports are perfect for a MacBook. The only small gripe is the fairly basic screen and the fan spinning up in the fastest mode. Otherwise, it is a solid, well-built, dependable choice.

We tested the DJI Power 1000 Mini over several shooting days and a weekend in a van, and it is the density that strikes you first. Having 1 kWh in a 31 cm box weighing 11.5 kg changes how you carry a station: it slides under a bench, wedges into a car boot between two bags, and can be carried one-handed on location. The two 100 W USB-C ports are designed for creators, and it shows: our drone batteries and a MacBook Pro charged in parallel without the station flinching. We compared the Delta 3 Plus to the base Delta 3 over several weeks, and the premium justifies itself as soon as you use one of its three real new features. The dual solar input up to 1000 W is the most telling: with two panels, it recharges visibly faster than a single-input station, a real plus in a van or a second home. The 140 W USB-C ports charge our laptops at full speed, without going through the mains brick. And above all, the inverter's NAS and HID compatibility kept our storage server and its software UPS perfectly stable during our outage tests, where a classic station might have cut the NAS. Otherwise, you get everything that makes the Delta 3 strong: 1024 Wh, 1800 W (2600 W X-Boost), 56-minute recharge and expansion to 5 kWh. Two honest caveats: it is heavier than the Delta 3 (16.5 versus 12.5 kg), and if you use neither fast solar, nor the 140 W, nor the NAS, the base Delta 3 is enough and costs less. But for a connected office or a solar setup, the Plus is the right choice.

Compact, remarkably quiet and controlled from the app, the Delta 3 Classic recharges at full speed from a simple socket and becomes the ideal companion for camping, van life and power cuts, without breaking the bank.
I took it out in a van and kept it at home for a few days, and honestly, for the price, it ticks almost every box. First impression out of the box: it is surprisingly light for 1 kWh, you move it with one hand without thinking. Outdoors, I ran a compressor cooler, charged the phones and two laptops, and even pulled out the blender for a fruit juice in the middle of nowhere: the 1800 W takes it in stride. What impressed me most is the silence, even under load you forget it is there, a real plus when you sleep next to it in a van. Mains recharge is express, a lunch break is enough to leave nearly full. The compromises are real and worth knowing: few USB ports, no 12V car socket, and the solar input is capped at 500 W. Nothing dealbreaking for typical off-grid use. For light off-grid use and top-ups, it is faultless, well finished and reassuring.

Yes, on two conditions. Peak power must absorb the compressor start-up, often 3 to 5 times the rated draw, so 600 to 900 watts for a 150 watt fridge. And the inverter must deliver a pure sine wave, otherwise the motor runs hot and ages prematurely.

Power decides what you can plug in, capacity decides for how long. A 1,000 Wh station capped at 600 watts will refuse to start a kettle, even fully charged. Draw up the list of your appliances and their wattage first, and only then how long you need them.

LiFePO4 (LFP) lasts 3,000 to 4,000 cycles against 500 to 1,000 for NMC, copes better with heat and carries a markedly lower thermal runaway risk. It is heavier for the same capacity though. For regular use or home backup, LFP is now the default choice.

Some can, when they advertise a UPS or EPS function with a switchover time under 20 milliseconds. The device stays on mains power and moves to battery with no perceptible break. Note that 20 ms is fine for a computer, but not always for a server or a boiler with sensitive electronics.
