USB, wall & battery chargers

Charging your devices and batteries properly also means choosing the right charger: here is our selection of the best chargers in 2026.

A good charger makes the difference between a slow, unreliable charge and a fast, safe and long-lasting one. Whether you want to power a phone, a laptop or a tablet from the mains, revive your rechargeable AA and AAA batteries or your 18650 cells, charge your devices in the car from the cigarette lighter, or keep your vehicle or motorcycle battery healthy through the winter, there is a charger made for the job.
We have gathered here the most reliable and best-performing chargers on the market, from ultra-compact GaN wall chargers to smart battery chargers and battery maintainers. Our team helps you pick the right model based on your devices, the charging speed you need and your budget.

I - Wall & USB chargers

The wall charger is the everyday essential: it recharges phones, tablets and laptops from a mains socket. Thanks to GaN technology and fast charging (Power Delivery, Quick Charge), recent models are smaller, more powerful and can charge several devices at once. Here is our selection of the best wall and USB-C chargers.

Anker Nano II 65W

24.59€ (13306)

The GaN charger that replaces all the others: 65W over USB-C, 3 ports for MacBook, iPhone and tablet, in a 53% more compact format.

  • Power: 65W max (GaN II)
  • Voltage: 5V / 9V / 15V / 20V
  • Outputs: 2 USB-C + 1 USB-A, 3 devices
  • Compatibility: MacBook, iPhone, iPad, Galaxy
  • 65W GaN, 3 ports, 53% more compact
The Anker Nano II 65W is an ultra-compact USB-C wall charger with GaN II technology: it delivers up to 65W, enough to charge a MacBook Air or a 13-inch MacBook Pro at full speed, as well as an iPhone or a tablet. Its 3 ports (2 USB-C and 1 USB-A) power three devices at once, with power shared automatically. Claimed 53% smaller than a conventional charger, barely bigger than an AirPods case, it becomes the ideal single charger for the bag as well as the desk.
We have been using the Anker Nano II 65W every day for weeks, and it is the kind of little accessory you never leave behind. The first surprise is its size: barely bigger than an earbuds case, yet it replaces the MacBook's bulky brick. On the main USB-C port, the laptop charges at full speed, and you can plug in a phone and a tablet at the same time without anything stalling, the power sharing itself. Anker's finish is there, the case is solid and does not get warmer than it should. On the move, it fits in the smallest pocket and saves carrying three different chargers. Two small caveats: when charging three demanding devices at once, each necessarily gets less than the port's 65W on its own, which is logical, and it does not include interchangeable plugs for abroad, unlike some rivals. But for a single, tiny, reliable GaN charger from one of the industry leaders, it is a reference we recommend without hesitation.

The Anker Nano 3 (511) charger is a small 30W USB-C wall brick that relies on GaN technology to drastically cut its size: up to 70% more compact than an equivalent charger, with a foldable plug that protects your bag. Its PowerIQ 3.0 technology with PPS recharges an iPhone up to 3 times faster than a stock 5V charger, and also suits Samsung Galaxy, Pixel, iPad and earbuds. Ugreen Nexode 65W

  • Voltage: 5V / 9V / 12V / 15V / 20V

Its 3 ports (2 USB-C and 1 USB-A) power three devices at once, with power shared automatically. Shipped with interchangeable US, UK and EU plugs, it becomes the ideal travel companion to replace all your chargers with a single one, in a pocket format.
We replaced three chargers with the single Ugreen Nexode 65W, and it is exactly what you want from a good GaN charger: it disappears into a bag pocket and powers the MacBook, the phone and the earbuds at the same time. On the main port, the laptop charges at full speed, you get back half a MacBook Air's battery in a break, and plugging in a second device is no problem, power is shared without you having to think about it. We really appreciate the included US/UK/EU plugs: abroad, you leave the country adapter at home, a real space saver. The finish is solid and the case does not get warmer than it should. Two small caveats: when charging three demanding devices at once, each necessarily gets less than the port's 65W on its own, which is logical, and the USB-A is starting to look a little dated against all-USB-C. But for a single, compact, travel-ready charger at this price, the Nexode 65W is a safe bet we recommend without hesitation.

Ugreen 30W USB-C Charger

29.99€ 12.59€ (4495)

The little charger that charges fast: 30W over USB-C (PD 3.0 and PPS), an iPhone to 60% in 30 minutes, in an ultra-compact format.

  • Power: 30W max (PD 3.0)
  • Voltage: 5V / 9V / 12V / 15V
  • Outputs: 1 USB-C port
  • Compatibility: iPhone, iPad, Galaxy, Pixel
  • 30W compact, iPhone 0-60% in 30 min
The Ugreen 30W USB-C charger is a small wall brick built to fast-charge a phone or a tablet. With 30W on a single USB-C port, it charges an iPhone 14 Pro Max from 0 to 60% in about 30 minutes and handles the main fast-charging protocols (Power Delivery 3.0, PPS, Quick Charge). Compatible with iPhone, iPad, Galaxy and Pixel, it also powers earbuds or tops up a MacBook Air. Compact and light, it slips in anywhere: the ideal spare to keep at the desk or take on a trip.
We use the Ugreen 30W USB-C charger as a second charger, and it does exactly the expected job: fast-charging a phone without hogging the power strip. Its size is contained, barely more than an original iPhone charger, and it disappears into a bag. In practice, an iPhone gets back more than half its battery in half an hour, and it handles a Galaxy or an iPad just as well. The finish is clean, the white case stays understated and does not get warmer than it should. Two small limits to know: it has only one USB-C port, so no charging several devices at once, and it only tops up a laptop, 30W not being enough for a large one. But to fast-charge a phone or a tablet day to day, at this price, it is an excellent no-frills basic, reliable and simple, that we recommend as a spare or travel charger.

Compatible with PD 3.0, Galaxy PPS 60W and Quick Charge, with the ThermalGuard 2.0 system, it is the ideal single charger for home, office or travel.
We replaced the MacBook's bulky charger with the Ugreen Nexode Pro 100W, and the space saving is immediate: it is barely bigger than a phone charger, yet charges the laptop at full speed, you get back half the battery in a break. The three ports earn their keep every day: you plug in the laptop, the phone and the earbuds without a second thought, the power sharing itself. The Pro series finish is polished, the case stays cool even when you push it hard. We like that it handles Galaxy fast charging as well as iPhone. Two small caveats: when all three ports are used by demanding devices, each gets less than the port's 100W on its own, which is logical, and it is a little pricier than an entry-level 100W, but you pay for the GaNInfinity compactness and the reliability. For a single, powerful and portable charger, it is a safe bet.

Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W Slim

45.99€ 38.99€ (522)

65W of power in an ultra-flat format: a 3-port USB-C GaN charger that slips into a laptop sleeve, with US/UK/EU plugs.

  • Power: 65W (GaN Infinity)
  • Voltage: 5V / 9V / 12V / 15V / 20V
  • Outputs: 2 USB-C + 1 USB-A, 3 devices
  • Format: Ultra-thin, US/UK/EU plugs
  • 65W ultra-thin, 3 ports, travel plugs
The Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W Slim pushes compactness to the limit: its ultra-thin, flat case, claimed 55% smaller than a conventional charger, slips into a laptop sleeve without a bulge. Thanks to GaNInfinity, it delivers 65W (MacBook Air M2 to 51% in 30 minutes) across three ports (2 USB-C and 1 USB-A). Shipped with interchangeable US, UK and EU plugs, it becomes the ideal travel charger, with a laptop-brick's power in the smallest possible footprint.
We adopted the Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W Slim as a travel charger, and its thinness is its trump card: flat as a pebble, it slips into the MacBook sleeve without you feeling it, where a cube-shaped charger always makes a bulge. Despite that format, it charges the laptop at full speed, you get back half the battery in half an hour, and the three ports let you plug in the phone and earbuds too. The included US/UK/EU plugs are a real plus for travel, you leave the country adapter at home. The Pro series finish is polished and the case does not get warmer than it should. Two small caveats: with three demanding devices, each gets less than the port's 65W on its own, and the USB-A is starting to look dated against all-USB-C. But for a 65W charger this thin and travel-ready, it is a success that comfortably replaces the original brick.

Ugreen MagFlow 3-in-1

132.99€ (221)

A station that charges the whole Apple ecosystem: iPhone over MagSafe Qi2 25W, Apple Watch and AirPods, in a clean, foldable base for travel.

  • Power: iPhone Qi2 25W, Watch/AirPods 5W
  • Compatibility: MagSafe, iPhone 12-17, Apple Watch
  • Adjustment: Adjustable angle, StandBy mode
  • Format: Foldable and portable
  • 3-in-1 MagSafe 25W, foldable, MFi
The Ugreen MagFlow 3-in-1 charges the iPhone, the Apple Watch and the AirPods at once, with no visible cable. MFi certified, it offers fast Qi2 25W wireless charging for the iPhone (16 Pro Max to 50% in 30 minutes), a dedicated charger for the Apple Watch and a pad for the AirPods. Its angle is adjustable, a StandBy mode turns the iPhone into a clock, and above all it is foldable: unlike most 3-in-1 stations, it slips into a bag for travel. The complete, portable charging solution for the iPhone ecosystem.
We set up the Ugreen MagFlow 3-in-1 on the desk, and it immediately tidied up the cable clutter: the iPhone, the watch and the AirPods all charge in the same place, with a single gesture. The iPhone's Qi2 25W charging is striking for wireless, you get back half the battery in half an hour, at a speed you never had without a cable. The StandBy mode is very handy, you keep the time or a widget in view while it charges, and the adjustable angle lets you see the screen well. What we like most is that it folds: you take it away for the weekend without cluttering the suitcase, where classic 3-in-1 stations stay on the desk. Two honest caveats: full 25W is reserved for recent iPhone 16 and 17 (iOS 26), and the price is high, you pay for the MFi certification, the fast charging and the foldable format. But for a complete, fast and genuinely portable charging station, the MagFlow 3-in-1 is a fine success.

II - Battery chargers (AA/AAA/18650)

Switching to rechargeable batteries saves money and helps the planet, provided you have a good charger. A smart battery charger manages each slot individually, protects your cells and extends their lifespan, whether AA, AAA, NiMH batteries or lithium 18650 and 21700 cells. Discover the chargers we recommend.

Nitecore IntelliCharger i2 Charger

14.80€ (992)

A rugged, versatile charger that charges two cells at once, even of different types, from 18650 Li-ion to AA NiMH, with automatic chemistry detection.

  • Charge: 1000 mA max (500 mA on 2 bays)
  • Bays: 2 independent bays
  • Compatibility: Li-ion/IMR (18650, 26650...) + NiMH/NiCd (AA, AAA, D)
  • Auto chemistry detection, rugged, mains or 12V
The Nitecore IntelliCharger i2 is a universal charger that recharges two cells simultaneously, even of different types or sizes. It automatically detects the chemistry (Li-ion/IMR or NiMH/NiCd) and adapts the charge. It accepts a wide range of formats: Li-ion 26650, 22650, 18650, 18350, 17670, 14500, 10440, 16340/RCR123, plus NiMH/NiCd AA, AAA, AAAA and D cells. Simple, safe and tough, it runs on mains or a 12V car socket. Ideal for users of torches and 18650 cells.
The Nitecore IntelliCharger i2 is certainly not the newest or most sophisticated battery charger, but after testing more than 10 chargers of different brands and formats, our team kept this one for its simplicity and durability. It recharges the most common rechargeable formats without any trouble. Extremely solid and long-lasting (we have been using one at the office almost daily since 2014, and it still works without a hitch despite several drops). Protected against overheating and reverse polarity, it stops automatically when the cell is charged or after 10 hours of charging. We also appreciate that it can be powered via a car cigarette-lighter cable, which makes it even more versatile. In short, it only has small LEDs to show charging progress rather than a fancy LCD screen, it is rather rustic, but it is far better and less temperamental than most mains chargers on the market.

Olight UC Magnetic USB Charger

$9.99 (181)

Particularly clever, this small charger from Olight is able to recharge almost any cylindrical battery, via USB.

  • Charge: 750mA via USB
  • Slot: Charges a single battery at a time
  • Compatibility: Lithium IMR/Li-ion, Nickel (Ni-MH/Ni-Cd)
  • Ultra compact, universal (charges more than 30 battery types)
This minimalist battery charger was designed by Olight (a brand specializing in flashlights and torches). Powered via USB, it is able to charge a very wide range of different batteries and cells, as long as they are Lithium or NiMH/NiCD type and cylindrical in shape, with a current of 750mA. Shaped like a Y, it has a USB plug on one end, and on the other, 2 magnetic tips that attach to your battery's two poles thanks to two magnets.
Since the launch of this small battery charger, several brands have released a magnetic charger with a similar design. We've had the chance to test 4 others, and none is as good and versatile as the one from Olight. Nothing beats the original, then. Able to charge almost any cylindrical battery, this smart charger detects the battery's technology and charges it accordingly. Basically, it can charge any cylindrical lithium battery with a voltage of 3.6V/3.7V and any cylindrical NiMh cell with a voltage of 1.2V/1.5V. It's hard to get more versatile than this tiny device, which will find its place anywhere thanks to its feather-light weight of 20.5g, for example in an EDC kit or a Bug Out Bag. One of the best chargers on the market, and one of the Best Batteries team's favorites! (Would have scored 5/5 if several colors had been offered.)

Varta LCD Smart Charger+

41.20€ (2892)

One of the most popular battery chargers: clear LCD screen, handy USB power and 4 AA cells included. The good all-round compromise.

  • Formats: AA/AAA (NiMH)
  • Screen: LCD (state, time left)
  • Input: USB, 4 slots
  • Included: 4 AA 2100mAh cells
  • LCD screen and USB charging, 4 cells included
The Varta LCD Smart Charger+ is a very widespread smart charger for AA and AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries. It charges up to 4 cells with individual management of each slot, and its LCD screen clearly shows charge state and remaining time, cell by cell. Powered by a USB cable, it plugs into a mains socket, a computer or a power bank. Automatic detection and protections ensure safe charging. Supplied with 4 Varta AA 2100mAh cells, it is a versatile, readable set, one of the best-sellers on the market.
It is the charger you see everywhere, and in use you understand why: the LCD screen is genuinely pleasant, you see at a glance where each cell stands and how much time is left, no more guessing. The USB power is well thought out, we even used it on a power bank over a weekend. Individual charging lets you mix AA and AAA without trouble. The 4 supplied cells help you get started. Let us be honest about the limits: charging is not the fastest, and some of the included cells age less well than premium eneloop. Its rating reflects this mass popularity with varied expectations. But for versatile family use, with a clear screen and the flexibility of USB, it does the job very well at a reasonable price.

Ansmann Powerline 5 Pro charger

68.85€ (900)

The charging and reconditioning station for enthusiasts: all formats (AA to D, 9V), LCD screen and test, discharge and refresh programs to maintain your batteries.

  • Formats: AA/AAA/C/D and 9V
  • Screen: LCD, adjustable current
  • Functions: Charge, discharge, test, refresh
  • Slots: Individual charging
  • Multi-format maintenance station with LCD
The Ansmann Powerline 5 Pro is a premium charger and a true maintenance station for NiMH and NiCd batteries. It accepts all round battery formats (AA, AAA, C, D) as well as 9V blocks, and manages each slot individually. Its LCD screen shows each battery's state, and its four programs (charge, discharge, capacity test, refresh) let you maintain and revive tired cells. The charge current is adjustable. It is the ideal tool for photographers, DIYers and enthusiasts who want to get the most from their batteries.
For anyone who takes rechargeable batteries seriously, the Powerline 5 Pro is a little gem. We put it to the test with a stock of AA and AAA cells of various ages, and the capacity test function identified those ready for retirement, while the refresh program revived several we thought were dead. Being able to charge D and 9V on the same device is real comfort when you have varied needs. The LCD screen is readable and finally gives concrete figures. Two caveats: it is noticeably pricier and bulkier than a simple charger, and getting to grips with the programs needs a glance at the manual. But to maintain a fleet of cells over time, it is an investment that quickly pays off.

You plug it in, insert the batteries, the light comes on, and a few hours later everything is charged. The supplied ReCyko are stunning in shelf life, we found them nearly full in a controller after a whole summer. It is the charger we recommend without hesitation to someone still hesitating to switch to rechargeables. Of course, do not expect miracles: no screen, no fine individual charging, no test function. For serious use or a large fleet of cells, you will move up a range. But as a first charger or a backup, the value is unbeatable.

Panasonic Eneloop BQ-CC55 charger

38.05€ (264)

The reference smart charger for AA and AAA NiMH batteries: per-slot charging, automatic detection and 4 eneloop batteries included.

  • Formats: AA/AAA (NiMH)
  • Slots: 4, individual charging
  • Charge: Fast, ~3h for 4 AA
  • Safety: Detection, overcharge protection
  • Smart per-slot charging, 4 eneloop included
The Panasonic Eneloop BQ-CC55 is a smart charger for AA and AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries. It charges up to 4 batteries at once, with individual management of each slot: each cell is charged then monitored separately, which preserves their lifespan. Automatic detection and overcharge and overheat protections ensure safe charging. Fast (about 3 hours for 4 AA), compact and supplied with 4 eneloop 2000mAh batteries, it is the safe bet to equip the whole home.
We adopted it and we are not going back: this little Panasonic replaced all our disposable batteries. Per-slot individual charging really changes things, you can mix two AA and one AAA without a second thought, and each cell is treated according to its state. The supplied eneloop live up to their promise, you find them charged even after months in a drawer. Compact, quiet, it barely warms up. The only real complaint: no screen, just LEDs, so no precise info on capacity or remaining time, which is enough for home use but will frustrate enthusiasts. At this price, with 4 eneloop included, it is the best starting point to switch to rechargeable batteries.

III - Car (cigarette lighter) chargers

On the road, in a motorhome or a van, the cigarette-lighter charger is essential to keep your devices charged. The best models offer several USB ports, fast charging and a compact design that fits neatly in the cabin. Here is our selection of efficient and reliable 12V car chargers.

Anker 30W Car Charger

14.99€ (6710)

Two USB-C ports in a tiny body: the Anker 30W car charger quickly charges two devices at once without sticking out of the 12V socket.

  • Power: 30W
  • Ports: 2 x USB-C
  • Technology: PowerIQ 3.0
  • Format: Ultra-compact
  • 2 USB-C and fast charging in a tiny body
The Anker 30W car charger is an ultra-compact car adapter with two USB-C ports. It delivers up to 30W and uses PowerIQ 3.0 technology to fast-charge smartphones and small devices, up to 3 times faster than a basic 5V charger. Its tiny format sits almost flush in the 12V socket, without getting in the way of the gear lever. It handles protection against over-voltage, over-current and overheating, and intelligently shares power between the two ports. Compatible with iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, iPad and most USB-C devices.
The Anker 30W car charger does exactly what you ask of it, no fuss. What I liked first is its size: once plugged in, it barely protrudes from the 12V socket, so it does not get in the way of the gear lever or storage, unlike many chargers that stick out several centimetres. The two USB-C ports are a real everyday comfort: driver and passenger can charge at the same time, and PowerIQ fast charging tops up an iPhone in a single trip. Anker's finish is neat, the body does not heat up worryingly, and the light ring helps find the ports at night. Two USB-C ports only, so an old USB-A cable needs an adapter, but that is the direction of travel. At this price, it is a reliable, clever little accessory I recommend for fitting any car.

Ugreen Car Charger 63W

27.32€ (2795)

A powerful 63W car charger: one 45W USB-C fast-charging port and one USB-A port, to charge two devices at once in the car, even a laptop.

  • Power: 63W total (2 ports)
  • Ports: USB-C 45W (PD/PPS) + USB-A 30W (QC 3.0)
  • Compatibility: Phones, tablets, USB-C laptops
  • 45W fast charging and 2 devices at once, compact
The Ugreen 63W car charger turns the cigarette-lighter socket into a two-port fast-charging station. The USB-C port delivers up to 45W Power Delivery, enough to quickly charge a smartphone, a tablet or a light laptop, while the USB-A port (up to 30W, QC 3.0) powers a second device. Compact, made of aluminium and fitted with internal protections, it charges two devices simultaneously on the road. A reliable accessory from Ugreen.
On long trips, a good car charger changes everything, and this one really does the job. The 45W of the USB-C port charge the phone at full speed, and we were even able to keep a small USB-C laptop charging while it was running, which a basic car charger cannot do. The second USB-A port tops up the passenger's phone or a tablet at the same time. The aluminium body stays warm and well finished, it does not wobble in the socket, and the discreet light ring helps spot it at night. With nearly 3000 reviews and an excellent rating, it is a safe choice. The only thing to know: to draw the 45W over USB-C, you need a good Power Delivery-compatible USB-C cable, which should not be overlooked.

Ugreen 145W Car Charger

45.99€ 35.99€ (967)

The all-in-one car charger: 145W to charge 4 devices at once, with a 70 cm retractable USB-C cable always to hand in the car.

  • Power: 145W total, 100W max/port
  • Ports: USB-C cable + 2 USB-C + USB-A
  • Cable: Retractable 70 cm (60W)
  • Compatibility: iPhone, MacBook, iPad, Galaxy
  • 145W, 4 devices, retractable cable
The Ugreen 145W car charger turns the cigarette-lighter socket into a charging station: 145W of total power to charge up to four devices at once. Its 70 cm retractable USB-C cable (60W) extends and retracts with a single pull, joined by two USB-C ports and a USB-A port. A single USB-C port reaches 100W, enough to charge a MacBook Pro at full speed in the car. Cable tested for 25,000 retractions, with multiple protections: the ideal accessory for family trips.
We fitted the Ugreen 145W car charger on a long family trip, and it quickly won everyone over: the retractable USB-C cable is remarkably practical, you pull it to plug in the passenger's phone, and it tidies itself away, no more tangle of cables in the console. With its four outputs, everyone charges their device at the same time, and the power is more than enough, we even charged a laptop on the 100W port while the phones were charging. Being able to angle the cable across several positions is well thought out so it does not get in the way of the gear lever. The finish is solid and the case does not heat up abnormally. Two small caveats: the retractable cable is USB-C only, so for a Lightning or micro-USB device you will need to use a port and your own cable, and the price is a little above a basic cigarette-lighter charger, but you pay for the power, the built-in cable and the durability. To equip a family car, it is an excellent investment.

Baseus 65W Car Charger

34.27€ (392)

Powerful enough for a laptop: the Baseus 65W car charger combines USB-C 45W and USB-A 18W, with an LED screen that monitors the car battery.

  • Power: 65W (USB-C 45W + USB-A 18W)
  • Protocols: PD 3.0, QC 4.0/3.0
  • Display: LED voltage display
  • Input: 12-24V (car, truck)
  • USB-C 45W for a laptop + voltage display
The Baseus 65W car charger is a dual-port car adapter: a USB-C up to 45W (PD 3.0 and QC 4.0) able to recharge a laptop, and a USB-A up to 18W. Its LED screen continuously shows the vehicle's battery voltage, useful information to monitor the electrical system's health. It accepts a wide 12-24V input, compatible with cars, SUVs, trucks and vans. Compatible with most fast-charging protocols (PD, QC, SCP, AFC), it is a versatile, sturdy charger with a neat metal body.
The Baseus 65W car charger is clearly a step up from the usual small car chargers. What makes the difference is the power of its USB-C port: at 45W, it not only charges smartphones at full speed, but also a light laptop or a tablet, which is rare on a cigarette-lighter charger. The 18W USB-A port nicely rounds it out for a second device. I really like the little LED screen: on start-up, it shows the vehicle's battery voltage, which helps spot a tired battery before it fails. The metal body feels serious and does not heat up excessively. Two reservations: it sticks out a little more than the ultra-compact models, and the screen, very visible at night, can be a touch bright for some. But for anyone wanting a powerful car charger, able to power a laptop and monitor their battery, it is an excellent choice.

IV - Car & motorcycle battery chargers

A car or motorcycle battery left unused slowly discharges and deteriorates. A charger-maintainer keeps the charge at the right level, revives tired batteries and prevents unpleasant starting surprises, especially after winter or a long lay-up. Here are the best battery chargers and maintainers on the market.

CTEK MXS 5.0

99.85€ (513)

The CTEK MXS 5.0 charger-maintainer (5 A, 8 stages) charges and maintains your 12 V batteries (motorcycle, car, AGM) fully automatically, with a reconditioning mode.

  • Charge: 0.8 / 5 A (12V)
  • Batteries: Lead-acid 1.2 to 110 Ah (maintenance 160 Ah)
  • Program: 8 stages, incl. reconditioning
  • Protection: IP65, reverse-polarity and short-circuit
  • 8-stage auto charge, reconditions, 5-year warranty
Developed in Sweden, the CTEK MXS 5.0 is one of the most popular battery chargers: fully automatic, it delivers 0.8 or 5 A and suits all 12 V lead-acid batteries from 1.2 to 110 Ah (flooded, AGM, gel). Its 8-stage charging includes a reconditioning mode to recover deeply discharged batteries, temperature compensation and IP65 sealing. Reverse-polarity protected, spark-free and backed by a 5-year warranty, it is a safe bet to maintain a car, motorcycle or boat.
We have used the CTEK MXS 5.0 for years to maintain the batteries of cars and motorcycles that sit through winter, and it has never let us down. Plug it in, choose the mode, and forget it: it does the rest, unattended, and switches off on its own once the optimal charge is reached. The reconditioning mode even saved us a motorcycle battery we thought was dead after a long lay-up. It is dead simple to use, the clamps and the permanent M8 eyelet are handy, and the IP65 sealing lets you leave it connected in the garage without worry. The only small downside is the price, a little above an entry-level charger, but the reliability, safety and 5-year warranty more than justify it. For anyone who wants a charger that lasts and looks after their batteries, it is the benchmark.

Battery Tender Plus

129.45€ (20661)

One of the best-selling maintainers in the world: the Battery Tender Plus keeps your 12V batteries in top shape all year, with 4-step charging and a 10-year warranty.

  • Type: 12V charger / maintainer
  • Charge current: 1.25A
  • Charge: 4 stages with float maintenance
  • Compatibility: Flooded lead-acid, AGM, Gel
  • Bulletproof maintainer, 10-year warranty
The Battery Tender Plus is a 1.25A 12V battery charger and maintainer, famous in the US for its reliability. Its smart 4-step charge (initialization, bulk, absorption, float) recharges the battery then holds it at the ideal voltage with no overcharge. It features temperature compensation, reverse polarity protection and spark-proof connections. Compatible with flooded, AGM and Gel batteries, it comes with clamps and eyelet terminals, and is backed by a 10-year warranty.
The Battery Tender Plus is an institution across the Atlantic, and you quickly understand why. It is the kind of maintainer you hook up to a motorcycle or quad battery at the end of the season and forget until spring, confident the battery will be ready. Its 4-step charge does the job cleanly: it recharges, then switches to float maintenance and keeps the battery at exactly the right voltage without ever cooking it. Temperature compensation is a real plus in an unheated garage. The permanent eyelet terminals let you reconnect in two seconds. The 10-year warranty says a lot about the maker's confidence. Note that the classic 021-0128 version is designed for the North American market (US plug), to check depending on the imported version. Its 1.25A current reserves it for maintenance and small batteries, not fast recharging, but for storing a two-wheeler or a classic car, it is a sure bet.

Noco Genius5

79.16€ (6338)

Compact but complete: the Noco Genius5 charges, maintains and desulfates your 6V and 12V batteries, from scooter to camper, with 5A and lithium compatibility.

  • Charge current: 5A (6V and 12V)
  • Compatibility: Lead-acid, AGM, Gel, lithium LiFePO4
  • Battery capacity: Up to 120 Ah
  • Functions: Charge, maintain, desulfate, Force mode
  • 5A all-in-one, lithium compatible and fully automatic
The Noco Genius5 is a smart 6V and 12V battery charger and maintainer delivering 5A. Compatible with every technology (lead-acid, AGM, Gel, lithium LiFePO4), it charges, maintains and desulfates batteries up to 120 Ah automatically. Its thermal sensor adapts charging to temperature, and its Force mode revives dead batteries down to 1 volt. You can leave it plugged in 24/7 with no risk of overcharge, ideal for storing a motorcycle, a rarely used car or a boat.
The Noco Genius5 is the little charger you end up using for everything. We hooked it up to a motorcycle battery left in the garage all winter, and come spring the scooter started first time, with nothing to monitor. What we like is its versatility: 6V or 12V, lead-acid, AGM, Gel or lithium, it adapts on its own, and you can leave it plugged in permanently without ever worrying about overcharge. Force mode is impressive for recovering a battery that has dropped very low, where a conventional charger refuses to even start charging. Desulfation genuinely gives tired batteries a second life. The supplied clamps and eyelet connectors make setup quick. The only small downside is that at 5A it is not made to urgently recharge a big camper battery, but for maintenance and batteries up to 120 Ah, it is an excellent companion, discreet and reliable.

Noco Genius10

119.25€ (3667)

The big brother of the Genius5: 10A to recharge and maintain batteries up to 230 Ah, from 4x4 to camper, compatible with lead-acid and lithium alike.

  • Charge current: 10A (6V and 12V)
  • Compatibility: Lead-acid, AGM, Gel, EFB, lithium LiFePO4
  • Battery capacity: Up to 230 Ah
  • Functions: Charge, maintain, desulfate, Force mode
  • 10A for large batteries, 9 modes and lithium compatible
The Noco Genius10 is a smart 6V and 12V battery charger and maintainer delivering 10A. It charges, maintains and desulfates batteries up to 230 Ah, with nine modes covering lead-acid (flooded, AGM, Gel, EFB) and lithium LiFePO4. Its thermal sensor adapts charging to temperature, and its Force mode revives dead batteries down to 1 volt. Twice as powerful as the Genius5, it quickly recharges large vehicle batteries while staying compact.
The Noco Genius10 takes everything we like about the Genius5, but with double the power, and that changes the game for large batteries. We used it on a well-discharged 100 Ah 4x4 battery: where the smaller model would have taken a whole night, the Genius10 brought it back in a few hours. Its nine modes cover every case, from 6V to 12V lithium, with a Repair mode that is very effective at desulfating. Like the rest of the range, it is fully automatic and can stay plugged in on maintenance with no risk. The casing is sturdy, a bit heavy, and the output cables are generous. We also like the Supply mode, which lets you use it as a regulated power supply when changing a battery without losing the vehicle's memory. The only real rival at this level is CTEK, but the Noco's lithium and 6V compatibility often makes the difference. An excellent charger for anyone with several vehicles to maintain.

CTEK CS Free

289.00€ (675)

The first truly cordless 12V battery charger: the CTEK CS Free revives a flat battery in 15 minutes, with no socket, thanks to its internal battery and Adaptive Boost.

  • Type: Portable 12V charger + booster
  • Internal battery: 20 Ah lithium
  • Charge current: Up to 20A (Adaptive Boost)
  • Outputs: USB-C, USB-A (power bank function)
  • Cordless 12V charger that revives a battery in 15 min
The CTEK CS Free is a fully portable 12V battery charger with a 20 Ah internal lithium battery. Thanks to its patented Adaptive Boost technology, it analyses the battery's condition and delivers up to 20A to restart a flat vehicle in 10 to 15 minutes, with no mains socket. It also works as a smart maintainer and a power bank via its USB-C and USB-A ports. It recharges from mains, a 12V socket or a solar panel, and holds its charge for up to a year.
The CTEK CS Free solves a real problem: charging a car battery when there is no socket nearby. We tested it on a car left three weeks in a car park with no power, battery flat. Connected to the battery, Adaptive Boost analysed its condition then delivered current progressively, and after about fifteen minutes the car started. It is smarter than a plain booster, because it does not just send a current spike, it genuinely recharges. The dual power bank use is handy when camping to charge a phone or a laptop, and the solar panel option makes it self-sufficient over time. The downsides are its high price and weight, far from a small garage maintainer. Some reviews also note fairly slow charging in maintainer use. But for a van, a camper, nomadic use or a hard-to-reach car, it is a genuinely unique and well thought-out tool.

Renogy DCC50S

209.99€ (175)

Recharge your auxiliary battery while driving AND from the sun: the Renogy DCC50S combines a 50A DC-DC charger and an MPPT solar controller in a single unit, made for vans.

  • Charge current: 50A (12V)
  • Inputs: Alternator + solar (built-in MPPT)
  • Power / efficiency: 660W, up to 94%
  • Compatibility: Lead-acid (flooded, Gel, AGM), lithium LiFePO4
  • 50A DC-DC charger and solar MPPT in a single unit
The Renogy DCC50S is a 12V dual-input on-board battery charger delivering 50A. It recharges the auxiliary (service) battery of a van or camper from the vehicle's alternator and/or from solar panels, thanks to a built-in MPPT controller. With 660W of power and 94% efficiency, it is compatible with lead-acid (flooded, Gel, AGM) and lithium LiFePO4 batteries. Its voltage-sensitive relay (VSR) isolates the two batteries, and an optional Bluetooth module allows monitoring via the app.
The Renogy DCC50S is one of the key pieces of equipment in a converted van, and in use it delivers on its promises. We installed it to recharge an auxiliary lithium battery, with one input from the alternator and another from roof-mounted solar panels. The result is impressive: while driving, the service battery recharges at 50A, far faster than with a simple split charger, and once parked, the MPPT controller takes over with solar. Having both functions in a single unit greatly simplifies installation and wiring. The voltage-sensitive relay cleanly isolates the starter battery, avoiding a dead battery in the morning. Adding the optional Bluetooth module lets you monitor charging on the app, which is very handy. Points to plan for: you must size the cables properly (50A is a lot of current) and set the right battery profile, and with a smart alternator an ignition wire is needed. But for a serious van or 4x4 installation, it is a sure bet.

V - Related questions

GaN (gallium nitride) replaces silicon in wall chargers. It runs cooler and handles higher power, allowing much more compact and efficient chargers at the same wattage. A 65W GaN charger fits in the palm of your hand and can recharge a laptop.

Yes. A smart charger monitors each cell individually, stops charging at the right moment and prevents overheating. As a result, your batteries and cells last significantly longer and keep their capacity better, unlike a basic charger that charges everything uniformly.

A charger recharges a flat battery. A maintainer (or charger-maintainer) goes further: once the battery is full, it automatically keeps the charge at the optimal level over long periods, without any risk of overcharging. Ideal for a car, motorcycle or motorhome left idle for several weeks.
