A smart charger with microprocessor control
A modern battery charger no longer just sends current until the battery is full. The CE-BC 4M belongs to the family of so-called smart chargers, controlled by a microprocessor, which analyze the battery's state and break charging into several successive phases.
IP65 and winter mode, rare at this price
The IP65 protection rating is rare in this price range. The first digit indicates total dust resistance, the second resistance to low-pressure water jets. In practice, the charger handles a damp garage, an open shed, or a dusty workshop without any special precautions. Winter mode, activated below 5°C, adapts the charging profile to a cold battery's behaviour, which accepts current less readily.
Maintenance charging, the most relevant use case
Once the battery is full, the charger doesn't stop abruptly: it monitors voltage and feeds small amounts of current back in when it drops. You can therefore leave it plugged in for weeks, or the entire off-season, with no overcharge risk. An LCD screen continuously shows the measured voltage and charging progress.
4A and no lithium, the two limits to know
On the power side, the unit delivers up to 4 amps and accepts both 6V and 12V, covering batteries for motorcycles, scooters, ride-on mowers, cars, and small vans.
Who the CE-BC 4M is for
On the features that matter to a private user, the CE-BC 4M nearly matches devices twice as expensive, like the CTEK MXS 5.0 or the Noco Genius5. The real question is chemistry: if you have LiFePO4 in the garage, go straight for the CE-BC 5M for a bit more.
