Detailed overview: Renogy Lycan 5000 Power Box backup station 4800Wh
The Renogy Lycan 5000 Power Box is an all-in-one solar storage and backup system, designed by Renogy, a well-known solar-energy specialist. Unlike portable power stations, it clearly targets residential and off-grid use: taking over from the grid during an outage, or forming the heart of an off-grid installation.
It is built around a 4800Wh LiFePO4 battery (48V) and a pure sine wave inverter of 3500W continuous (7000W peak), enough to power the vast majority of household appliances, including the most demanding. Its UPS function switches instantly to battery during an outage, protecting sensitive devices with no perceptible interruption.
Its main asset is its all-in-one approach: it integrates in a single box the battery, the inverter and an MPPT solar controller, which lets you recharge it directly with solar panels and greatly simplifies installation compared with a modular system to assemble yourself. It is mounted on rugged wheels that let you move it despite its heavy weight.
Its limits are significant for the European market: the Lycan 5000 is mainly distributed in North America, which makes it hard to obtain in Europe, and its original design is intended for the 120V US grid. It is a heavy, costly product, reserved for serious residential use. But for anyone looking for a complete, rugged solar backup and storage system, the Lycan 5000 remains a benchmark in its category.
Comparison
How does the Renogy Lycan 5000 compare with rival residential backup systems?
| Model | Capacity | Power | MPPT solar | Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Renogy Lycan 5000 | 4800Wh | 3500W | Built-in | All-in-one on wheels |
| EcoFlow Delta Pro | 3600Wh | 3600W | Built-in | Portable on wheels |
| Bluetti AC500 + B300S | 5120Wh | 5000W | Built-in | Modular |
The Renogy Lycan 5000 stands out for its all-in-one approach designed for residential use, where the EcoFlow Delta Pro stays more portable and the Bluetti AC500 is modular (power unit + separate batteries). Its mainly North American distribution is its main limit in Europe.

Our tester's review: Christophe Delpuech
The Renogy Lycan 5000 does not play in the portable-station category: it is a genuine residential backup system, designed to take over from the grid during an outage or to live off-grid. Its 4800Wh and 3500W let it power the essentials of a home, and its UPS function switches over instantly, fast enough to interrupt nothing. We like its all-in-one approach: built-in MPPT solar controller, inverter, LiFePO4 battery and wheels, all in one box, which simplifies installation compared with a modular system to assemble. In return, it is a heavy, expensive product, mostly distributed on the North American market, which makes it hard to obtain in Europe and raises the voltage question (originally 120V). For serious residential use and solar charging, it is nonetheless a rugged, complete solution.
Frequently asked questions: Renogy Lycan 5000 Power Box backup station 4800Wh
With 3500W continuous and 4800Wh, it powers the essentials of a home: fridge, lighting, electronics, tools, and many appliances at once. Its UPS function makes it a genuine residential backup power source.
Yes. The Lycan 5000 has a built-in MPPT solar controller, which lets you recharge it directly with solar panels, with no extra equipment. It is an all-in-one solar system.
It is mainly distributed in North America and is not listed on Renogy's European sites or on European marketplaces. Its original design is also intended for the 120V US grid.
It is mounted on rugged wheels that let you move it, but its heavy weight and residential purpose make it more of a system to install permanently than a portable station.
