The Power X-Change principle rests on one simple, profitable idea: rather than selling each machine with its own battery, Einhell standardised a single 18 volt format across its whole cordless range. Drills, grinders, sanders, mowers, hedge trimmers, blowers, pressure washers, work lights and even power inverters now share the same pack, across a range of more than three hundred machines. Buying an extra battery therefore extends the runtime of every tool you own at once.
This 4.0 Ah reference delivers 72 watt-hours at 18 nominal volts. In practice that means roughly a day of ordinary screwdriving, a mower over a small lawn, or twenty minutes at full load on a 230 V inverter. It sits in the most versatile part of the range: the 1.5 and 2 Ah formats suit light tools but run down quickly, while the 5.2 and 6 Ah offer more runtime at the cost of extra weight and bulk.
The onboard electronics handle the usual duties of a modern lithium-ion pack: temperature monitoring during charge and discharge, balancing between cells so that no single one degrades faster than the rest, and cut-off in case of deep discharge. At identical capacity, the price gap with the Ryobi RB18L13 battery is striking, but it should not decide the matter on its own: these two batteries are not interchangeable, and the real cost of an ecosystem is measured across every machine you own within it. Nobody switches tool brand over thirty euros. With close to seven thousand customer reviews, this battery is among the best sellers in its category, and it is easy to see why. The central argument is not technical but economic: as long as you stay with Einhell, one battery does everything. We have watched it move from a drill to a blower and then to a 230 V inverter in the same day, with no adapter and no improvising. On the 4 Ah format specifically, the balance is good. The 2 Ah packs run down too quickly on demanding tools, the 6 Ah ones noticeably weigh down a screwdriver held at arm's length; the 4 Ah sits in between, with 72 watt-hours for a little over six hundred grams. The three-segment LED indicator is basic, but it has the merit of existing and stops you running flat at the wrong moment. Two honest remarks, however. The stated capacity is measured under favourable conditions: on a tool that draws hard, expect closer to ninety per cent of the theoretical figure, which is normal for the sector. And the charger is never supplied with these batteries sold on their own, a detail that catches out hurried buyers: check you already have one, otherwise a starter kit works out cheaper than buying both separately. Beyond that, it is a reliable, thoroughly proven product, and the best ticket into an ecosystem that has grown a great deal.
