Detailed overview: Bosch 18V 8.0Ah CoolPack 2.0 battery

The ProCORE18V 8.0Ah sits at the top of Bosch's 18V Professional battery range, the current generation of the brand's 18V system. Two layers of high-output 21700 cells deliver up to 87% more power than a conventional battery, enough to keep the hungriest tools fed: circular saws, angle grinders and rotary hammers.

Bosch's exclusive CoolPack 2.0 technology dissipates heat around 15% faster than the previous generation and, according to the brand, extends service life by up to 135% compared with a standard Bosch 18V pack without CoolPack. Copper end plates, power rails and a flexible circuit board are built in to cut internal resistance, which helps the pack sustain a heavy current draw without sagging.

The ProCORE18V 8.0Ah is engineered for the whole Bosch 18V Professional system and works with 18V tools and chargers you already own, including the high-torque PROFACTOR line. It is also part of the AMPShare system, a shared 18V platform designed to work across a growing list of partner tool brands. Its taller cell stack does not, however, fit every compact 18V tool, notably some older circular saws, so it is worth checking clearance against your tool before buying if you already run slimmer CORE18V packs.

A high-resolution LED charge indicator shows the remaining level at the press of a button, and at 955g the battery stays reasonably manageable for this capacity. Paired with the GAL18V-160C fast charger, it reaches 80% charge in around 32 minutes. With 117 verified ratings on Amazon UK and a 4.6 out of 5 average, it remains one of the best-reviewed batteries in Bosch's current 18V lineup.

On our tester's bench, this ProCORE18V 8.0Ah replaced a 4.0Ah that was starting to feel short on the angle grinder and the reciprocating saw: the extra grunt is obvious from the first cut, with no drop-off even on the most current-hungry PROFACTOR tools. Runtime is the real selling point, echoed by most UK reviews on this exact battery: a full day of drilling and cutting without going back to the charger. The flip side of that capacity is size: the pack is noticeably taller and heavier than a 4.0Ah, and it will not fit a few compact tools such as some older corded-style circular saws, worth checking if you already own smaller CORE18V packs. Paired with the GAL18V-160C fast charger, it reaches 80% in around 32 minutes, genuinely useful on a busy site, though an older 18V charger will take a lot longer, over an hour and a half by some accounts. The one gripe that comes up again and again is price, well above a standard 18V pack. For anyone running Bosch 18V tools all day, this remains our default pick above 6.0Ah.

Frequently asked questions: Bosch 18V 8.0Ah CoolPack 2.0 battery

It covers almost the entire Bosch Professional 18V ecosystem, CORE18V and older tools alike, plus PROFACTOR tools and the AMPShare alliance. The one exception is its taller body, which does not fit a few compact tools such as some older corded-style circular saws: check clearance against your specific tool if you already own smaller CORE18V packs.

It is Bosch's own heat management system for its 18V batteries. It dissipates heat around 15% faster than the previous CoolPack generation and promises up to 135% longer lifetime than a standard Bosch 18V pack without CoolPack, a real advantage on demanding tools like grinders and saws.

Yes. Bosch's 18V Professional system has kept the same mount since 2008: the ProCORE18V 8.0Ah charges on the same chargers and clips onto the same tools as older Bosch 18V batteries, aside from a handful of compact tools where the taller body simply does not fit.

With the GAL18V-160C fast charger, expect around 32 minutes to reach 80% charge. With an older standard 18V charger, a full charge takes considerably longer, up to around 1 hour 40 minutes by some user accounts.
