The TC-ES 18/150/1 belongs to a still thinly populated category: inverters that plug into a tool battery rather than carrying their own. The unit stores no energy at all, it simply turns the 18 volts direct current of a Power X-Change battery into 230 volts alternating current, plus USB power. Since Einhell's whole cordless range shares the same battery, from hedge trimmer to sander, the accessory slips naturally into an existing kit.
The 230 volt socket delivers 150 watts, covering most small appliances: laptop charger, lamp, camera battery charger, small pump, router. The USB-A port supplies 10 watts and the USB-C Power Delivery port goes up to 60 watts. That last figure is worth pausing on: it is what most thin laptops expect, and comfortably above what any tablet or phone on the market needs. The first criterion remains the tools you own: these two inverters are not interchangeable, each accepts only its own brand of battery. If you are on Power X-Change, the Einhell is your only option anyway, and that is good news because its 60 watt USB-C port makes it the more accomplished of the two. If you are with Ryobi, the RY18BI150A inverter saves you some twenty euros, at the cost of two USB-A ports limited to 12 watts. On paper this TC-ES looks like its Ryobi rival: the same 150 watts on the 230 volt socket, the same principle of clipping onto a tool battery. It is the USB ports that open up a gap. Where most of these units make do with two dated USB-A sockets, Einhell fits a 60 watt USB-C Power Delivery port, exactly what a modern laptop expects. The difference is not cosmetic: going through USB-C avoids converting power to 230 volts only to convert it back inside the laptop's power brick, and that double conversion easily costs a quarter of the energy. In practice, with the same 4 Ah battery, you gain twenty to thirty minutes of laptop runtime. The rest is carefully done: covers over the sockets against dust, non-slip surfaces, a built-in hanging hook and a dimmable LED lamp, far more useful than a simple on-off light. Two things to know before buying. This TC-ES version does not charge Power X-Change batteries, it only consumes them; Einhell reserves the charging function for the pricier TE-ES variant. And like any inverter this size, it heats up under sustained load and dislikes confined spaces. At around ninety euros it costs some twenty more than the Ryobi equivalent, which the USB-C port amply justifies in our view, provided of course that you already own Power X-Change kit.
