The Murata VTC6 (full designation US18650VTC6) is one of the best-known high-drain 18650 lithium-ion cells in the world, a favourite among rebuildable vape enthusiasts and fans of very powerful torches. It is now manufactured by Murata Manufacturing, which acquired Sony's cylindrical battery division in September 2017: the cell keeps the same design and the same reputation, only the brand printed on the wrapper changed, and it is still often called "Sony/Murata" out of habit among retailers and users alike.

With 3000 mAh of guaranteed minimum capacity (3120 mAh typical) and a 15A continuous discharge rating, it reaches up to 30A at peak with an 80 °C thermal cut-off, a profile built for low-resistance sub-ohm builds. Its nominal voltage is 3.6 to 3.7V, with a maximum charge of 4.2V and a discharge floor around 2.5V. The VTC6 is something of a legend in the high-drain world. Now made by Murata after it acquired Sony's cylindrical battery division in 2017, it keeps the reputation it built under the old brand fully intact. Tested in several rebuildable dual-coil box mods around 0.15 to 0.2 ohm, it holds up under load without flagging and without any worrying heat build-up, even during intensive vaping. Also used in a high-power LED torch, it delivers stable current from the start of the discharge to the end, unlike lower-quality cells that sag towards the end of their run. The one real downside: at near-equal capacity, Panasonic's NCR18650GA offers more runtime if your device never draws more than 10A. And as with any cell this popular, counterfeits are a real risk: always check the source before buying. Overall, a tough, timeless classic that is still as relevant as ever.
