MPPT efficiency: electronics shared with the SmartSolar
The BlueSolar 75/15 and the SmartSolar 75/15 share the same hardware and the same charging algorithm: only the presence of built-in Bluetooth distinguishes the two ranges at the same rating. Charging performance data collected on one therefore applies to the other, except for anything related to the app and remote monitoring.
An apparent fault can actually come from cheap MC4 connectors failing upstream, on the installation itself, rather than from the controller: a point worth checking before blaming the unit.
Battery compatibility and one technical point worth knowing
The BlueSolar 75/15 is compatible with lead-acid batteries (gel, AGM, flooded) and lithium, via configurable charge profiles and its BatteryLife function, which adjusts the charge threshold to preserve the battery over time.
One technical point is worth knowing before buying: automatic detection of the system voltage (12V or 24V) only runs on the very first installation, then locks. Moving the unit to a system of a different voltage without a manual reset through the app (accessible with a Bluetooth dongle or the SmartSolar version) creates a risk of overcharging. The default lithium preset, with a 2h absorption time, exceeds the actual need of a generic LFP battery, which reaches its absorption threshold faster: it is best to shorten it manually through the app.
No screen or Bluetooth as standard: the real trade-off
The BlueSolar 75/15 works entirely on its own: no app is needed for it to charge a battery correctly, a real advantage for anyone who does not want to depend on a smartphone. That is also its main limitation for anyone who wants to track solar output remotely: with no screen or built-in Bluetooth, you need to add a VE.Direct Bluetooth dongle sold separately to access the VictronConnect app, or switch directly to the SmartSolar version at the same rating.
Safety and reliability
Reverse polarity protection, standard across the Victron range, relies on a resettable circuit rather than a single-use fuse: it stays effective even after several wiring mistakes. The Victron MPPT range benefits from an established reputation for reliability in the off-grid sector, backed by a long-standing presence in this market.
No independent data has, however, been found specifically isolating the BlueSolar variant (without Bluetooth) at this rating: nearly all of the information available concerns the SmartSolar version, which shares the same charging electronics but differs in the usage experience (app, monitoring) by nature.
Price and availability
The price observed varies significantly by retailer, between €45 and over €80 for the bare controller. No product recall was found for this model in the American and European safety databases consulted.
