The Voltcraft VC-GP40 is an outsized power bank that sits on the border between a power bank and a portable power station. In use, what strikes you first is its huge reserve, 144000 mAh of LiFePO4 that last several days while camping. We used it to charge a laptop at full speed over the 100 W USB-C port, run a small fan from the 12 V socket and keep two smartphones topped up all weekend without it flinching. The 300 W Anderson output opens the door to more demanding devices, provided you have the right cable. The LiFePO4 chemistry is reassuring on lifespan and safety, and the built-in LED light genuinely comes in handy at night. The two real downsides are the weight, close to 4.6 kg, which makes it better suited to a van, a fixed campsite or home backup than a backpack, and the lack of a 230 V mains socket: everything runs through USB, 12 V or Anderson.
