The JBL Charge 6 is the new generation of the Charge, the brand's flagship portable Bluetooth speaker. It keeps the winning formula of the Charge 5, powerful sound, big battery life and a power bank function, while modernising almost every aspect to stay a benchmark among multi-function devices.
Sound is the first winner: the Charge 6 delivers 45 W RMS in total (30 W for the woofer and 15 W for the tweeter), backed by AI Sound Boost, a processing algorithm that analyses the music in real time to draw the most from the drivers with less distortion. The result is fuller and more dynamic than the Charge 5, with deep bass served by its side-firing passive radiators.
Battery life reaches 28 hours: 24 hours of playback, plus 4 extra hours unlocked by Playtime Boost, which eases off the bass. A full recharge takes 3 hours (12 to 20 V, 3 A) and 10 minutes on the charger give back 2.5 hours of music. The USB-C port, more universal than the old USB-A, charges the speaker, serves as a power bank output to rescue a smartphone (JBL states it will not charge a laptop), and even accepts a high-quality wired audio input. One thing to know: no USB cable is supplied in the box.
For durability, JBL moves up to IP68 certification: the speaker resists dust and submersion, a step above the Charge 5's IP67. The big ergonomic novelty is the removable carry strap, handy for hanging the speaker on a bag, a bike or a branch.
Connectivity moves to Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast, which replaces PartyBoost and broadcasts music to a near-unlimited number of Auracast-compatible speakers. At 960 g (990 g with the strap) and dimensions of 22.9 x 9.9 x 9.4 cm, the Charge 6 confirms its status as a do-it-all speaker: long-lasting, rugged and versatile. Its only limits: no microphone for calls and a slightly higher price.

After years of faithful service from the Charge 5, we were watching the Charge 6 closely, and JBL delivered. The sound has grown fuller: AI Sound Boost, a real-time signal processing algorithm, draws more from the drivers and you feel more generous bass, a more open presentation at higher volumes. On a day at the beach, the IP68 rating (now protected against prolonged submersion) reassured us, and the removable strap, the real novelty, is a game changer for hanging it on a bag or a branch. The 28-hour battery life is comfortable: you get through a camping weekend with little recharging. The power bank function moves to USB-C, more universal, and the same port also serves as a quality wired audio input. On connectivity, Auracast replaces PartyBoost and broadcasts to a near-unlimited number of compatible speakers. Two reservations: the price creeps up compared with the Charge 5, and there is still no microphone for calls. But as a multi-function portable speaker, the Charge 6 is a fine evolution.
