The EcoFlow Stream Microinverter is an energy conversion device designed for balcony solar. Its job is simple: turn the DC produced by solar panels into 230 V AC, fed straight into the home through a household socket, with no work and no changes to your electrical panel. It is the most accessible brick of the EcoFlow Stream ecosystem, to which you can later add storage batteries (Stream AC, Pro, Ultra) to go further.
On the solar side, it carries two independent MPPT trackers, each accepting up to 600 W, or 1200 W of panels in total, with a voltage range of 16 to 60 V and a maximum current of 16 A per input. These two MPPTs let you install panels facing different directions (east, west, south) without shading or a poor orientation on one penalising the whole. Grid output is 800 W (800 VA, 3.48 A at 230 V), a ceiling set to stay compliant with plug-in feed-in rules, while the hardware accepts more on the input side.
Two assets set it apart. First, remarkable sensitivity: the microinverter starts from just 3 W of solar input, which lets it produce early in the morning, at dusk and in low light. Second, unusual ruggedness for this kind of device: the IP67 rating protects it against rain and dust (resistance even to temporary immersion), and it works from -40 to 65 °C. The Stream is the microinverter with which EcoFlow simplifies the way into balcony solar, and in use it is broadly convincing. Installation genuinely lives up to the plug-and-play promise: you screw on the bracket, clip in the panels' MC4 connectors, plug the supplied mains cable into a socket, and the EcoFlow app walks you through the rest in about fifteen minutes, with no electrician. Two details make the difference day to day. First, sensitivity: the microinverter kicks in from just 3 W of input, so it scavenges energy early in the morning and at dusk, where others stay idle. Second, ruggedness: the IP67 rating, rare on this kind of device, withstands full immersion, and it works from -40 to 65 °C. App control gives clear production graphs, but the more advanced Eco-AI assistant and the peak/off-peak mode are billed by subscription, information you find out only after buying rather than before. The zero-injection mode, for its part, has failed in at least one reported case even with the recommended smart meter, worth checking for anyone relying on it. Real conversion efficiency runs between 90 and 96% depending on the power drawn, below the peaks quoted in the spec sheet. Two more structural caveats: on its own, without a Stream ecosystem battery, the appeal is limited to daytime self-consumption, unused energy being lost; and the output is capped at 800 W to stay within grid rules, although the hardware could do more. A solid base to start with, provided you know these caveats before buying rather than after.
