Its network protection up to 1 Gbit/s, its two fast-charging USB ports and its dedicated PowerChute communication port round out a coherent package for anyone protecting a NAS or a demanding home server. The limits remain close to the rest of the range: modest runtime that drops quickly under full load, outlets exclusively in the IEC C13 format, and a 2-year warranty shorter than the BE850G2-FR's. Next to the BX500MI and the BE850G2-FR, already reviewed, the Back-UPS Pro BR650MI stands out at first glance thanks to its LCD display, absent from the other two models in this line-up. It targets a similar use, a NAS, home server or router, with genuine visual control on top.

Average runtime, adjustable with the load

Stated runtime ranges from about 3 minutes at full load (390 W) up to 10.5 minutes at half load. This range sits in the average for its category and price bracket, enough to ride out a brief outage or trigger a clean shutdown of a NAS or a server, not to keep working for long off the mains. It remains comparable to the BE850G2-FR, despite a slightly lower rated power (650 VA versus 850 VA).

6 IEC C13 outlets, fewer in number but all battery-backed

That is a solid result, but, paradoxically, no faster than the 6 to 10 milliseconds stated for the BE850G2-FR, despite the latter's simpler standby topology: raw switching speed is not the real advantage of line-interactive regulation. Its real strength lies elsewhere, in the AVR that corrects mains voltage without ever switching the unit onto battery for simple variations, preserving both runtime and battery lifespan on an unstable electrical supply.

LCD display, network protection and a dedicated communication port

The LCD display is the real differentiator of the BR650MI against the other two Back-UPS models in this line-up: it shows the battery charge, the power draw and the operating mode in real time, without needing to open any monitoring software. Network protection up to 1 Gbit/s, via two RJ45 ports (in and out), filters surges carried over an Ethernet cable, a more complete feature than on the BX500MI or the BE850G2-FR. A dedicated USB communication port, separate from the two fast-charging ports (Type-A and Type-C), allows PowerChute Personal Edition to be installed for an automatic shutdown of the connected computer, still limited to Windows across the whole range.

Compact build, shorter warranty than the BE850G2-FR

The tower design stays compact (91 x 310 x 190 mm, about 6.4 kg) and the sealed lead-acid battery is user-replaceable. The manufacturer warranty is 2 years, shorter than the 3 years stated for the BE850G2-FR from the same brand, a point to weigh against the BR650MI's LCD display and more complete network protection.

The BR650MI Pro justifies its position as the most expensive of the three through its LCD display and its more complete network protection, two strengths absent from the other two models. It does not, however, stand out on switching speed, nor on warranty length, which is shorter than the BE850G2-FR's. For genuine visual control over the setup, it is the most accomplished choice of the three; for the best socket-to-price ratio, the BE850G2-FR remains more relevant.
