The Könner & Söhnen KS 3000 is the German maker's serious entry-level petrol generator, a brand already in our catalogue with the KS2000i S, its inverter cousin. It is aimed at household backup during an outage, light site work with no mains connection, a garage, a garden or an isolated workshop.
The engine is an in-house KS 210, a single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke petrol unit of 208 cc rated at 7 hp, or 5.15 kW mechanical. It drives a synchronous alternator wound in 100% copper, a detail that matters: copper runs cooler and ages better than the copper-clad aluminium found on many budget sets. Output is quoted at 3 kW peak and 2.6 kW nominal at 230 V, for a maximum current of 13.04 A and a power factor of 1.
The control panel gathers two 230 V Schuko sockets, a 12 V output rated 8.3 A for charging a battery, and an LED display showing voltage, frequency and a running-hours counter. AVR regulation continuously corrects the output voltage so it does not follow engine surges, which protects power tools. A built-in fuel gauge and a low-oil cut-out complete the equipment, the whole thing rated IP23M.
Endurance is where the KS 3000 really stands apart: a 15 litre tank for a quoted fifteen hours at 50% load. The tubular frame measures 580 x 430 x 440 mm for 41.5 kg net, with no wheels as standard: the KS 3 KIT transport set is sold separately. Starting is by manual recoil pull, and noise is quoted at 68 dB(A) measured at seven metres, a low figure for an open frame.

In short, the KS 3000 is the longest-running and the lightest of the group, and the only one claiming a 100% copper alternator with a full LED display. The Mecafer MF3800 offers 400 W more and a third 230 V socket for around fifty euros less, but weighs eight kilos more. The Einhell TC-PG 35/E5 is the cheapest in the table, with comparable power but less equipment. The SDMO Perform 3000 banks on a Kohler engine and French after-sales support, at the cost of a tiny tank that means three refuels a day. For household backup where the set must run long and unattended, the KS 3000 is the most rational choice.

Two figures stand out on this spec sheet, and they belong together. The first is runtime: fifteen hours at half load, a day and a night without touching the fuel cap. A 15 litre tank for 2.6 kW in steady operation is a very favourable ratio, where many rivals of the same rating make do with 4 to 6 litres and demand refuelling every three hours. The second is noise: 68 dB(A) measured at seven metres, a figure you would associate with a sound-insulated set rather than an open tubular frame. Take care not to confuse that 68 dB(A) with the 93 dB LWA also quoted: the first is what you hear from a distance, the second a standardised sound-power level that only compares with itself. The rest is solid work rather than spectacle. The 100% copper alternator winding is a genuine quality marker in this segment, where copper-clad aluminium is common and ages less gracefully. AVR regulation stabilises the voltage, the LED display shows voltage, frequency and an hour counter, and a fuel gauge saves you guessing. The low-oil cut-out stops the engine before damage occurs. Two limits to know. The 41.5 kg is a two-person lift, and the wheel kit is not supplied as standard, you have to add the KS 3 KIT. And AVR is not an inverter: for a laptop or fragile electronics, an inverter set remains the safer bet. For tools and household backup, though, this is a very good buy at 499 euros.
