Konnwei KW208

The Konnwei KW208 has become one of the most popular car battery testers on the market, and for good reason: it offers a complete diagnosis in a compact body at a very accessible price. Where a simple voltmeter merely shows a voltage, the KW208 goes much further by actually analysing the health of the battery and its electrical environment.

In practice, it performs three functions. First, it tests the battery itself: it measures voltage, internal resistance and estimates cold cranking capacity (CCA), over a wide 100 to 2000 CCA range, then displays a state of health (SOH) as a percentage. Second, it analyses the cranking system, to check that the starter draws a normal current. Third, it checks the charging system, that is the alternator, to make sure it charges the battery correctly once the engine is running. This complete diagnosis reveals whether a problem comes from the battery, the starter or the alternator.

It works on 6V and 12V batteries and supports the main lead-acid technologies: standard flooded batteries, AGM (flat or spiral plate), EFB and GEL. You simply select the battery type before the test for a consistent result. Connection is made directly to the terminals via the crocodile clamps, and results are shown on a backlit LCD screen, readable even under the hood.

Simple, rugged and multilingual, the KW208 suits both the driver who wants to check a battery before winter and the small garage or enthusiast. Its limits are those of its category: a basic interface and a sometimes imperfect translation. But to diagnose a weakening battery yourself, avoid an unnecessary replacement or confirm an alternator fault, it is an investment that quickly pays off.
