Detailed overview: Sony NP-FW50 battery for Alpha A6000 A7
The Sony NP-FW50 is the genuine lithium-ion battery that long powered the majority of Sony mirrorless cameras, from expert compacts to full-frame. With a 7.2V voltage and a 1020 mAh capacity, it remains a reference, notably for the many still very popular APS-C Alpha bodies.
It is compatible with a wide range of Sony bodies: the APS-C mirrorless Alpha A6000, A6100, A6300, A6400, A6500 and A5100, the full-frame A7, A7 II, A7R, A7R II, A7S and A7S II, the expert compacts RX10 II, III and IV, and the vlogging ZV-E10. It is advisable to check your model is on the list before buying.
The benefit of a genuine Sony battery is twofold: perfect recognition by the camera (accurate display of charge percentage and remaining time, with no incompatibility message) and safety, with built-in protections against overcharge and overheating. On bodies whose runtime is not a strong point, having a reliable battery changes everything.
Whether as a second (or third) battery to last a full day of reporting, travel or filming, or to replace a battery that has lost capacity over the years, the genuine NP-FW50 is a safe investment. Always having a charged battery ready is never missing a scene for lack of power.

Our tester's review: Yoni Marchal-Laporte
The NP-FW50 equipped the majority of Sony mirrorless cameras for years, and it still keeps its promise today. Its real capacity comes close to 95% of its rated 1020mAh, a solid result that puts it ahead of several compatible rivals tested under the same conditions. As a genuine Sony battery, it's recognised without reservation by every compatible body: precise display of the remaining percentage, no warning message, no crippled function. Its compatibility spans a wide range, from APS-C mirrorless bodies to the early full-frame models, as well as the RX10 expert compacts. One point deserves attention: this format gave way to the NP-FZ100 on every Sony body released from 2017 onwards, and the two are not interchangeable, and Sony publishes no official cycle-count figure for this reference. For anyone who already owns a compatible body, the official NP-FW50 remains the safest option for a spare or a replacement.
