Detailed overview: Power Queen 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 1280Wh battery
The Power Queen 12V 100Ah is a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery of 1280 Wh built for off-grid electrical independence. It is aimed at owners of motorhomes, caravans, converted vans, boats or solar kits who want to replace a lead-acid or gel battery with a lighter, more durable solution that can genuinely be used to the full.
Its main asset is its LiFePO4 chemistry, known for safety and longevity. Where a lead-acid battery copes poorly with deep discharges and wears out fast, the Power Queen offers 4000 to 15000 cycles depending on depth of discharge, and discharges to 100% without damage: you get all of the 1280 Wh, not half. For the same usable capacity, it is also far lighter.
Safety relies on a built-in 100A BMS (battery management system), which protects against overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, overcurrent and extreme temperatures. The low-temperature protection automatically cuts charging in the cold to preserve the cells, a crucial point for winter use.
With its compact dimensions (329 x 172 x 214 mm), it fits easily into a standard battery slot. It powers a fridge, lighting and a water pump in a van just as well as the electric motor of a boat, and pairs perfectly with a solar charge controller to store panel output.
Reliable, durable and versatile, the Power Queen 100Ah LiFePO4 is an excellent gateway to lithium independence, at a very competitive price against the big brands.
Our tester's review: Julien De Jurquet
The Power Queen 100Ah holds up very well against pricier batteries. Fitted in a motorhome in place of an old lead-acid battery, the difference in runtime is obvious: you actually use nearly all of the 1280 Wh, whereas lead does not tolerate deep discharges. The weight saving is welcome, and the built-in BMS is reassuring day to day against overcharge and short circuits. The low-temperature protection is a real plus to avoid damaging the cells in winter. We use it both to power a fridge, lighting and a pump in a van, and to store the output of a small solar kit. Two honest caveats: the 100A BMS limits discharge current, which is enough for most uses but may restrict a very powerful inverter, and like any LiFePO4, charging below 0°C is not advised (hence the protection). To replace lead with reliable lithium without breaking the bank, it is excellent value.
Frequently asked questions: Power Queen 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 1280Wh battery
The Power Queen LiFePO4 is far lighter, lasts 4000 to 15000 cycles (versus a few hundred for lead) and discharges to 100% without damage. So you use all of the 1280 Wh, whereas lead only tolerates about half.
Yes, it is an ideal use: paired with a solar charge controller (MPPT preferably, such as an Epever XTRA), it stores your panels' output for an off-grid system, in a van, motorhome or on a boat.
It has a low-temperature protection that automatically cuts charging when it freezes, to preserve the cells. Discharging remains possible, but like any LiFePO4 battery, charging below 0°C is not advised.
The BMS allows up to 100A of continuous current, about 1280 W at 12V, which suits the vast majority of portable uses. For a very powerful inverter, check that its draw stays under this limit.
