Detailed overview

The Anker Nano Power Bank (reference A1653) is an ultra-compact 5000 mAh power bank whose big idea lies in its connector: a foldable USB-C plug, built into the body, that flips out and plugs directly into the phone. No cable needed for a quick top-up: you clip the battery onto an iPhone 15/16 or a USB-C Android phone, and charging starts.

On power, it delivers up to 22.5 W (PowerIQ 3.0, 3 A), enough to charge a smartphone at a good pace: about twenty minutes are enough to recover a comfortable chunk of range. A second USB-C port complements the built-in plug: it serves to charge a second device or to recharge the battery itself. Four LED indicators show the remaining level.

With its 5000 mAh (around 18 Wh), it delivers in practice a full recharge for most phones, the ideal top-up to last a day. The whole thing weighs barely 100 g in a cube shape of roughly 7.7 x 3.7 x 2.5 cm, which slips into a jeans or jacket pocket without a thought.

Anker also cares about durability: the shell is made largely from recycled plastics, and ActiveShield 2.0 technology monitors temperature continuously for safe charging. Available in several colours (here in black), the Nano A1653 is one of the handiest pocket power banks for anyone wanting backup power without ever bothering with a cable.

Comparison

At around 20 to 35€, the Anker Nano A1653 compares with the most sought-after 5000 mAh pocket power banks, through searches such as "Anker Nano A1653 review" or "best USB-C pocket power bank". Here is how it sits against three alternatives: the Belkin BoostCharge 5K, the Baseus 5000 with built-in cable and the magnetic Anker 621 MagGo 5K.

In short, the Anker Nano A1653 is all about convenience: its built-in USB-C plug makes it the simplest to whip out, with no cable or stand, and its 22.5 W place it among the fastest in its class, all in the lightest format. The Belkin plays the dual USB-C and USB-A card at a low price, the Baseus carries a cable for devices a little further away, and the Anker 621 MagGo adds slower magnetic wireless charging for iPhone. For a minimalist, always-ready pocket top-up, the Nano A1653 remains the benchmark.

We took to this Anker Nano A1653 for one simple reason: it fits in a pocket and plugs straight into the phone, with no cable to carry. The foldable USB-C connector is genuinely clever, you flip it out, clip it onto an iPhone or Android phone, and charging starts. At 100 g on the scale, you forget it in a jacket pocket, and the 5000 mAh are enough to give most phones a full charge, plenty to see out a day with peace of mind. The 22.5 W do the job: twenty minutes plugged in and you get a good chunk of battery back. The extra USB-C port is handy for charging a second device or for recharging the battery itself. The matte finish is understated and pleasant, and the four LEDs clearly show the remaining level. Two honest reservations: 5000 mAh is a single recharge, no more, and the little cube shape sticks out a bit when the plug is attached to the phone. But for an ultra-light, always-ready, cable-free top-up, the Nano A1653 is an excellent everyday companion.
