The EliteBook 840 G3 is exactly the sort of machine people keep for years: solid chassis, excellent keyboard, still enough performance for office work and the web. Its battery, though, has aged, and that is often the only thing standing in the way of keeping it. This Green Cell fixes precisely that for around thirty pounds, against several hundred for a replacement machine. The flat 39 Wh Li-polymer format is the original one, so you get the starting runtime back, four to six hours depending on use. One important practical difference from the Inspiron range: the battery here is internal. You turn the machine over, remove the Torx screws from the base, disconnect the ribbon cable and swap the pack. Nothing complicated, about fifteen minutes, but it is not a tool-free job. What made us pick this reference over an anonymous pack is the two-year manufacturer warranty and the identified cells: on an internal battery that is hard to inspect, a careful protection circuit matters even more. Do watch the generations, though: the CS03XL targets G3 models, not the CM03XL packs of the G1 and G2.
