Duracell CR123

The CR123A battery, also designated CR17345, is a 3 volt lithium battery prized for its compactness and endurance. With twice the voltage of a standard alkaline cell (3V versus 1.5V) and a high energy density (about 1400 to 1500 mAh), it powers demanding devices in a very small format, which explains its popularity.

It is the preferred format for demanding and security devices: high-power tactical torches, alarms and smoke detectors, surveillance cameras and connected doorbells, rangefinders and sights, sensors, as well as film cameras and some flashes. Its lithium chemistry gives it a major advantage: excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, from severe cold (down to about -40 °C C) to high heat, where an alkaline battery would weaken.

Note: the single-use CR123A should not be confused with the 16340, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery of the same size but delivering a different voltage (3.6 to 3.7V). Many devices accept either, but you should check compatibility before switching to rechargeable, as the higher voltage of the 16340 can damage some equipment. For reliable, universal, maintenance-free use, the Duracell CR123A lithium remains a safe bet.
